Under-pressure Monk hopes duo will return at Wycombe

Under-fire Garry Monk will be hoping to welcome back Dominic Iorfa and Izzy Brown for tomorrow’s bottom-of-the-table clash at Wycombe.

Both could be back in the squad after injury as we seek to end a worrying run of three successive defeats, the last two being shocking performances against Luton and then at Rotherham in midweek.

We go into the game still on minus four points and in danger of getting cut adrift at the bottom, while Championship newcomers Wycombe are still seeking their first win in the league this season … but we all know what that can mean when Wednesday come to town.

Iorfa’s return to our back line would be a timely one as we are already without suspended defenders Tom Lees and Joost van Aken, while Aden Flint is now ruled out after suffering a hamstring injury early in the midweek defeat by the Millers.

Keeper Cameron Dawson is expected to be dropped after being at fault with all three goals at Rotherham, with Joe Wildsmith ready to step up from the bench, and Massimo Luongo continues to be sidelined with his knee problem.

Boss Monk has received mounting criticism from fans after the recent defeats and the next three games before the November international break – at Wycombe and then at home to Bournemouth and Millwall – could be crucial to his future at Hillsborough.

He said: “It has been a disappointing week for us for sure and none of us are happy about that. I can promise no one is more unhappy when we lose a game than myself because I know how hard we prepare for that game and how hard the players have worked.

“But we get a chance to put it right and that is what we are focused on. We know the last two games especially have been below-par.”
