Under-18s through in FA Youth Cup after penalty shootout

Wednesday’s under-18s went through to the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup after a penalty shootout victory over Barnsley at Hillsborough this evening.

The teams were deadlocked at 1-1 after extra time before the young Owls progressed 3-1 on penalties, keeper Pierce Charles saving two Barnsley spot kicks and Sean Fusire netting our 12-yard winner.

We had taken the lead after 20 minutes when Rio Shipston’s whipped free kick deceived everyone and ended up in the far corner of the net.

However, Barnsley equalised soon after half time when Shipston fouled Fabio Jalo in the box and Jalo scored from the spot.

The visitors looked the more likely to score again as the game progressed but, with no further goals in normal and extra time, it was the Wednesday youngsters who came out on top in the penalty shootout.
