Unbeaten run continues as Owls outplay Reading

Wednesday’s remarkable record under Stuart Gray continued with a thoroughly deserved 2-0 win at in-form Reading to stretch our unbeaten run to 11 games.

And, although Reading played 80 minutes with 10 men, it was arguably one of our performancs of the season as we totally outplayed the play-off hopefuls and could easily have won by a bigger margin.

As it was, Chris Maguire’s 10th minute penalty – after Reading’s Alex Pearce was red carded for fouling Benik Afobe – and Afobe’s second-half effort from close range were enough to seal the poitns.

Apart from an early Reading flurry, Chris Kirkland was rarely troubled and Wednesday might have more goals to show in both halves, the closest coming when Jeremy Helan’s cracking second-half shot from an excellent move came back off the woodwork.

And with Jose Semedo taking the man-of-the-match honours as an emergency central defender, we ran out worthy winners to increase the gap between ourselves and the relegation zone and completed the double over Nigel Adkins’ men.
