Stuart Gray summed up what the 2000-plus Wednesday fans would also have been thinking after Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Charlton … we should have wrapped up all three points in the first-half.
Royston Drenthe’s excellent run and long-range strike gave us a deserved lead just before the half-hour mark and Chris Maguire missed a great chance to make it two but shot wide with half-time approaching.
And we were to live to regret that failure as the home side came out and dominated the second-half, drawing level through Igor Vetokele and largely looking the more likely team to score again.
After the game, Gray criticised the players for giving the the ball away far too much when in possession and added: “Charlton have a very good home record but we wanted to exploit one or two things and did so only to let that down by giving the ball away.
“Would I have taken a point before the game? No, because we wanted all three and after dominating the first half we should have got them.
“As far as I’m concerned, that’s two points thrown away and that is what I have told the players in the dressing room.”
