Trio eyeing return to action in Trophy match

Jack Hunt, Dominic Iorfa and Mallik Wilks could all return to action at Hillsborough tonight in our final Papa Johns Trophy group match against Leicester City under-21s.

The trio have been missing in recent games but Darren Moore has indicated they are likely to get a runout this evening, with Wednesday knowing they cannot go further in the competition after two defeats in their group.

Cameron Dawson is set to replace David Stockdale in goal while George Byers may well get some more minutes under his belt following his sub appearance at Cambridge on Saturday.

Callum Paterson, Jayden Brown and Alex Mighten are also expected to start.

Moore said: “We’ll get minutes in the players’ legs, there are a lot of games coming up and we’ll need the squad, so what it does is allows me to give one or two some real good matchday minutes.

“That will get players ready for future games in the league.”

He added: “Hopefully Mallik,Jack and Dom will be alright. We’ll have a look at the situation and, if not, then hopefully for the weekend.

“Ideally, we’d like them to get some minutes against Leicester.”
