Three-goal Wednesday outplay 10-man QPR

Wednesday ran out thoroughly deserved winners with another excellent Hillsborough victory … this time against a 10-man QPR on Tuesday evening.

It looked a harsh decision when Richard Dunne was given a straight red for a challenge on Leon Best after 35 minutes and Chris Maguire rubbed salt in the wound for Rangers when he hammered home the spot kick.

Wednesdayites at Loftus Road on the opening day of the season will feel it was justice done after we were denied a definite penalty in that game and, once Maguire had converted, there was no doubting who the winners would be.

Best made it two just after half-time, taking ex-QPR man Oguchi Onyewu’s pass and turning smartly in the box to fire home and then Lewis Buxton volleyed a fine third goal – his first since October 2011 – to complete a convincing win with 19 minutes left.

And the end-of-match statistics said it all, with Wednesday having 24 efforts on goal and seven on target while QPR could muster just five efforts, with just two on target.
