The ‘must-win’ matches continue for Wednesday

Wednesday’s outside chance of taking one of the two automatic promotion places in the closing matches of the division one season continues at home to Exeter tomorrow.

With ourselves, along with rivals Plymouth and Ipswich, all winning in midweek it’s as you are in terms of points difference, Wednesday now in third on 87, second-placed Ipswich with 88 and leaders Plymouth on 89, but we now have only three games left to alter the situation while the other two both have four matches remaining.

We know we have to win our three fixtures to realistically give us any chance of snatching an automatic place, continuing with the clash against mid-table Exeter.

On the defensive front, Akin Famewo is set to be in contention after picking up an injury at Bristol Rovers in midweek while Michael Ihiekwe continued his comeback for the under-21s in midweek against Burnley and is expected to be in the squad.

Meanwhile, Plymouth have the first of three successive home games, against Cambridge tomorrow, while Ipswich face a difficult-looking trip to play-off chasing Peterborough.

Fourth-placed Barnsley, on 82 points with four games left, are at home to Oxford.
