Henrik Pedersen praised Wednesday’s performance after the 2-0 defeat against Birmingham on Tuesday night.

Speaking after seeing the squad give a good account of themselves, only to concede two late goals at S6, the Owls boss said: “I think the boys tonight gave everything. I said before we played, it doesn’t matter if we go 1-0 up or 1-0 down, it’s so important to keep on going.

“After the first ten minutes, we played a really strong first half.

“One of the themes we had before the game was that we need to take bigger risks if we want to create more and come higher up the pitch.

“Today we were really aggressive in our pressing, it was the best pressing game we have had, we had a good follow up and won a lot of balls high up the pitch.”

Those two late strikes gave Birmingham the win, the second goal coming from an error by young defender Cole McGhee but Pedersen said: “To see Cole make the mistake was sad after he played such a strong game but to see the reaction from his teammates, it was strong and this positive atmosphere, strong culture and togetherness was there.

“We support each other and we push each other. It’s not just something that has come with the wind, it has come because we have a good group of players and coaching staff.”
