Former Wednesday manager Terry Yorath has passed away following a short illness, aged 75.
Yorath made his name as a midfielder in the highly successful Leeds team of the sixties and seventies. He then had spells with Coventry, Tottenham, Vancouver Whitecaps and Bradford City before finishing his playing career with Swansea and going on to manage Swansea, Bradford City, Cardiff and the Lebanon international team.
On the international stage, he made 59 appearances for Wales, 42 of them as captain, and became manager in 1988, during which time Wales went close to getting to the 1994 World Cup finals in the United States.
He joined Wednesday in June 2000 as part of Paul Jewell’s coaching team and became assistant to Peter Shreeves in February 2001.
Following Shreeves’ departure, he took up the role of caretaker manager in October 2001 and was appointed permanent boss a month later. He resigned his position in October 2002.
The London Owls send our deepest sympathies to Terry’s family at this saddest of times.
RIP, Terry.
