Strong words from Rohl after third successive league defeat

Danny Rohl talked of the need to find solutions after the Owls went down 3-0 at Millwall on Saturday afternoon in a third successive Championship defeat.

Following the opening day 4-0 win over Plymouth, we’ve conceded nine goals in our next three league games, failing to score in any of them, and the manner of today’s reverse will have left Rohl with plenty to think and talk about during the two-week international break.

The latest setback leaves us in 20th place after four matches and the manager said: “It is a big, big defeat again, it’s three defeats in a row and it’s hard to take.

“This is the reality, we must fight for every point, we must wake up. It’s a big signal for me that it’s the wrong direction and for this I need to find a solution in the next two weeks.

“It was an attacking eleven that we started with today and we expected more from this team.”

Rohl added:  “In the next two weeks we have to get stronger, find the best team, and we need the right team for the next challenges.

“If you have conceded nine goals in your last three league games and nearly create no chances then there must be reasons why and I have to look for those reasons.

“We especially need clean sheets because this is the basis of our game and at the moment we are conceding a lot of goals.

“We need hard work, we just cannot dream and think it will be easy.”

Wednesday finished a well-beaten team at Millwall, the home side showing the commitment, desire and energy needed to win a football match while we went down with hardly a whimper and had just one shot on target in the entire game.

The Lions might have been ahead by half time and their dominance grew further after the interval with Wednesday conceding two poor goals in a 13-minute spell to put Millwall in control.

Josh Coburn was left unmarked at the far post to tap home from inside the six-yard box for the opener on 58 minutes and Duncan Watmore finished from close-in for the second goal as we failed to clear a low corner.

There were no signs of a late Wednesday rally and that was confirmed two minutes from time when Jake Cooper headed home a soft third Millwall goal to complete a woeful performance from the Owls.
