Striker Lavery joins city rivals

Caolan Lavery’s hopes of making his name at Hillsborough have finally ended with the striker moving across the city to Sheffield United.

There were high hopes for Lavery as he came through our Development Squad and, after a successful loan spell at Plymouth, he returned to S6 in January 2014 and scored twice as a second-half substitute in the 6-0 thrashing of Leeds.

Lavery hit another double in the 4-1 win over Birmingham later in the season but went out on loan to Chesterfield in February of the following year.

He failed to command a place in the first team squad under Carlos Carvalhal, having a three-month loan spell – this time at Portsmouth – and the 23-year-old has now moved to Bramall Lane for an undisclosed fee.
