Rohl’s strong words after Wednesday’s capitulation

Danny Rohl spoke of his shock and disappointment after watching Wednesday concede five second-half goals in the 6-2 defeat to Watford at Hillsborough this afternoon.

Having seen the Owls looking the better side and going in at 1-1 at half time, Rohl and the 25,000-plus crowd then witnessed a total Wednesday capitulation, leaving the manager to say afterwards: “It is a big disappointment and I cannot accept this today. I am shocked and disappointed.

“We started the game well and got back into the match after they scored. At half time I had no doubt in my mind and was very convinced we were going to win the game. We had controlled the phases of the match, had more chances and more ball possession.

“To then concede five goals in one half is not right. I have shown the goals to the players immediately after the game, I have shown them the collective and individual mistakes.

“I thought we were one step ahead in our progress but today we have dropped back to old habits. I am shocked by the second half performance, to drop so far back in 45 minutes.

“We will now recover tomorrow and we must put this result behind us because we have a very important week coming up.”

We face Norwich at S6 on Tuesday before the game at Sheff  U next Sunday and Rohl added: “I need to think about my team for the game against a good Norwich side on Tuesday.

“I need to see who is ready, who’s fresh, who deserves to play. I am not a manager to lose trust immediately. I will help the players, give them belief and then we go again.

“But we have to stop the individual mistakes, this for me is crucial.”
