Wednesday have strengthened our attacking options with the loan signing of Ike Ugbo from French Ligue 2 side Troyes for the rest of the season.
Ugbo, 25, was with Championship rivals, Cardiff, for the first half of this campaign and is our second January transfer window signing, following keeper James Beadle’s loan move from Brighton.
Danny Rohl said today of his new signing: “He has good ability one versus one, he can press, and he has a lot of good things we can use for our style of football.
“He will need some time with us to adapt but I am convinced he can help us in the second half of the season. I will give him the belief.”
Ugbo began his career as a youngster at Chelsea and had loan spells at Barnsley, MK Dons, Scunthorpe, Roda JC in Holland and Cercle Brugge. He eventually signed for Genk in Belgium on a permanent basis, before moving to Troyes on loan where he later signed a four-year deal.
The striker represented England at under-17 and under-20 levels but also qualified to play for both Canada and Nigeria and switched to the former in 2021, being included in Canada’s 2022 World Cup squad in Qatar.
