Danny Rohl said his Wednesday players failed to live up to the standards of recent performances and paid the price with the 4-0 home defeat to Millwall today.
The manager said afterwards: “The intensity we have to play at was not there today and we cannot afford for that to happen. Millwall played well and I take nothing away from them but we were below the level today.
“Now we have to look forward, it is one game and we have to be better than that. We have a lot of games to go, we will get back to work in the international break.”
The one bright spot on an otherwise gloomy afternoon at S6 was the performance of young striker Bailey Cadamarteri who made his league debut when he came on at the start of the second half.
Rohl said: “With Bailey, I was really pleased with him. He has been training with us with the intention of him playing. He looked sharp and got into some good positions.”
Fellow striker Michael Smith missed the game with a muscle injury but Rohl hopes he will be fit to return at Birmingham after the international break. However, Callum Paterson is ruled out of that match as he picked up his fifth booking of the season today and will now serve a one-match ban.
