Rohl talks of ‘huge step forward’ after seven-point haul

Danny Rohl saluted his squad’s performance at Coventry today and hailed seven points won from three games in the last week as a huge step forward.

Shea Charles’ 94th minute winner completed an excellent seven days for the Owls and a delighted Rohl, who celebrated with the Wednesday fans at the end of this afternoon’s game, said: “I would have been proud of the performance, even if it had been a draw.

“For me, it was a really, really good team display.

“In the first half I thought we were the better side. Even though we were one-down for a long time, I thought we created the more dangerous situations, pressed well as a team and got the equaliser.

“I said to the team at half time that I want to win this game and that I felt we could.”

Looking back on a week that saw victories over West Brom and at Coventry, with a draw at Bristol City in between, Rohl added: “Beating West Brom was a small step, a point at Bristol City was a small step and so is today’s three points … but when you put all three together then this is a huge step.

“I am happy today but not too euphoric because in this league it goes quickly in one direction and then the other.

“If we can achieve this level again and again then we can make bigger steps. We are strong as a team … it was our strength last year and we have really, really good players who can help us do this.”
