Michail Antonio continued his recovery from injury with a first minute goal in Rodger Wylde’s testimonial match at Stockport last night.
Last season’s London Owls Player of the Year took just 43 seconds to put Wednesday in front against a Stockport Legends side, which included Wednesday old boys Carlton Palmer, Matt Hamshaw and Adam Proudlock.
Martin Taylor headed a second and we were three-up just before half-time through a Chris Maguire penalty after new signing Jacques Maghoma was brought down by keeper Jamie Spencer – an incident that led to Maghoma going off with an ankle injury.
The second period saw County fielding their current first team and Wednesday failed to add to their lead, with club legends David Hirst and Chris Waddle making cameo performances for the final 15 minutes.
The game gave the sizeable Wednesday contingent in the 2,038 crowd a look at youth development professional Rafael Floro, a 19-year-old from Porto, who played at left back and boosted Wylde’s testimonial fund – the former Hillsborough favourite receiving an excellent reception from the both sets of supporters as he donned a shirt which was half Stockport and half Wednesday.
