Henrik Pedersen was keen to concentrate on tomorrow’s game at Charlton when he held his pre-match press conference on Thursday.

Speaking at the conference and soon after the news broke of Wednesday facing a possible winding-up order over a reported £1m unpaid tax bill to the HMRC, the Owls boss said: “I have heard about it and of course this is not good. But let’s see what has happened before I say anything about this.”

He then confirmed that he had been in contact with the owner this week but that they did not speak about the HMRC situation.

Looking to the Charlton game, Pedersen said: “There has been a great atmosphere in the dressing room with the players focussed on the training. Our players, staff and coaches put these other things away because we have no control over them.

“We all try to do our best for this football club every day.”

On the pitch tomorrow, Pedersen will be without promising young defender Ernie Weaver, who faces a lengthy lay-off recovering from a foot injury, while Rio Shipston is sidelined for up to six weeks after suffering a muscle problem in training.

Pedersen said of Weaver: “I’m so sad for Ernie. This young man, how he has grown since the summer, it is fantastic. But also how he has played with this pain in his foot when most other players could not play with such pain. He has stood up and played again and again and he is still standing up.

“What fantastic character and mentality he has shown, he has so much to learn but what he has done these last three months is amazing. It shows his development and how you can grow.

“He also knows we are here for him, to support him through his journey now and we will be there for him when he comes back into the starting eleven at Sheffield Wednesday.”

Gabriel Otegbayo seems the likely replacement for Weaver at Charlton while Pedersen could again be forced to look at more youngsters being drafted into the stretched squad, with Reece Johnson and Bruno Fernandes back to fitness and Joe Emery also in contention for a call-up.

Pedersen will make a decision today over whether Bailey Cadamarteri will play. The striker returned from World Cup duty on Thursday, having been an unused sub for Jamaica in their win over Bermuda on Wednesday.

Barry Bannan should be fit to play after a knee injury and Wednesday will be backed by a sellout following of more than 3,000 fans as we look to stretch our unbeaten away run in the Championship to four games.
