Owls wait on injuries ahead of bottom-of-table clash

Wednesday wait to see if skipper Barry Bannan is fit to return for tonight’s bottom-of-the table clash with Middlesbrough at S6.

Bannan missed Saturday’s 1-0 home defeat to Ipswich and manager Xisco Munoz gave little information about the midfielder’s absence, saying afterwards: “I can’t tell you how long he will be missing – he may be available to play on Tuesday. He’s an important player, he’s one of the players in our squad that can give something different when he’s playing.”

Will Vaulks and Bambo Diaby were also out through injury and Munoz was unsure as to whether they will be fit for consideration. It’s a similar situation for Dominic Iorfa who left the field early on against Ipswich after seemingly taking a knock and was replaced by D’Shon Bernard.

Whoever features in the Wednesday line-up, Munoz will be looking for a major improvement from Saturday’s awful display which saw the Owls fail to manage an effort on target and ended with the manager apologising to the fans for the performance.

We go into the game with one point from our first five Championship matches, sitting one place off the bottom with tonight’s visitors below us on goal difference.

For Munoz, he finds himself under mounting pressure as he continues to search for a first victory in the Championship since taking charge in the summer.

On  Saturday, we looked devoid of just about any creativity, team spirit, belief or pattern of play and three points tonight look crucial, even at this early stage of the season.

The game is live on Sky Sports, kick off 8pm.
