Wednesday are waiting to see if defender Liam Cooper is fit to return to the starting line-up for our New Year’s Day game at Preston.

Cooper had to pull out of the squad before kick off against Blackburn on Monday, having been named in the starting line-up but then suffering an allergic reaction. Youngster Cole McGhee stepped up off the bench and performed well.

Successive home draws against Hull and Blackburn have taken us onto minus seven points at the foot of the table while opponents Preston, who could have ex-Owls Michael Smith and Pol Valentin in their set-up, have slipped out of the top six.

There is a possibility that Sean Fusire will also make the Wednesday squad after representing Zimbabwe in the Africa Cup of Nations.

He was injured for Zimbabwe’s first group match and was then an unused substitute in their other two games, Zimbabwe managing just one point and being eliminated on Monday.

Yan Valery will continue to be absent from the Wednesday side as he and his Tunisia squad have qualified for the knockout stages of AFCON after finishing second in their group.

They now face Mali at Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca on Saturday, kick off 7pm.
