Wednesday are expecting a big crowd for tomorrow’s Hillsborough clash with fellow strugglers Oxford United following the departure of owner Dejphon Chansiri.
Attendances at this season’s home games have been hit by fan boycotts over Chansiri, but manager Henrik Pedersen said of tomorrow’s match: “We’re all looking forward to coming to Hillsborough tomorrow and playing the game with plenty of people in the stadium.”
Emergency loan keeper Joe Lumley keeps his place for tomorrow’s match. He pulled off several fine stops against Middlesbrough in midweek and, under the terms of his seven-day loan, he starts again for the Oxford game before returning to parent club Bristol City.
Young striker George Brown has been ruled out for up to eight weeks after picking up a foot injury in training before the game with Middlesbrough but Bailey Cadamarteri could get a start up front after coming on as a sub against Boro.
After today’s EFL 12-point deduction, we sit at the foot of the table with minus six points and 15 points from safety while Oxford are two places above the relegation places.
Meanwhile, the Sheffield Wednesday Supporters Trust have called on fans to show their gratitude on the 10th minute of the game for the staff and players for their great efforts during troubled times both on and off the field under Chansiri’s ownership.
In a statement, the Trust said: ‘The end of Dejphon Chansiri’s involvement in Sheffield Wednesday is now official.
Many people have suffered throughout his tenure, none more so than the club’s staff.
They’ve endured uncertainty, mistreatment and late wages, all while continuing to keep our club alive.
The strain this has placed on their day-to-day lives cannot be understated.
Tomorrow, we show them just how much we appreciate them and the players by rising together on the 10th minute in a show of gratitude.
They’ve been the heartbeat of Sheffield Wednesday. They’ve kept the lights on, the gates open and the spirit of Hillsborough alive.
Tomorrow is for them.
We’re all Wednesday, aren’t we.
