Owls hit back to land three points

Goals from Steven Fletcher and Fernando Forestieri saw Wednesday bounce back from an early setback to take the three points against Wigan at Hillsborough this afternoon.

We fell behind after just five minutes when Will Grigg scored from close range but Wednesday began to take control of the game and it was no surprise when Fletcher levelled just before the half-hour mark, latching onto Barry Bannan’s through ball and slotting past keeper Adam Bogdan in front of the Kop.

Ross Wallace missed a good chance to put us ahead right on half-time but the Owls eventually got a second goal on 62 minutes, Forestieri linking up with Kieran Lee and slotting home from an acute angle.

Sub Gary Hooper almost made it 3-1 when he finished a fine move with an overhead kick that Bogdan saved.

Wednesday fans in the near 25,000 crowd then got the first opportunity to see new signing Adam Reach, as he came on for Daniel Pudil, and we ran out worthy winners.
