Wednesday have completed the loan signing of Manchester City youngster Jaden Heskey and he is expected to go straight into the squad for tomorrow’s home clash with Portsmouth.

Twenty-year-old Heskey, son of former England international Emile Heskey, is an attacking midfielder and joins us on loan for the rest of the season.

Heskey has already impressed at the Etihad and Pep Guardiola gave him his senior debut earlier this season in the Carabao Cup against Huddersfield.

In addition, the club has brought in QPR keeper Murphy Cooper on loan as replacement for Pierce Charles who is expected to be out for up to eight weeks following the shoulder injury suffered in the FA Cup tie against Brentford last Saturday.

Cooper, 24, had only just returned to West London from a loan at Barnsley and also joins us for the rest of the season.

He made two Championship appearances for QPR back in the 2021-22 season and has had loan spells at Welling United, Bath City, Swindon and Stevenage before moving to Barnsley in a similar arrangement at the start of this season, his final game at Oakwell coming in Monday’s 4-1 FA Cup defeat to Liverpool.

In addition, Yan Valery is expected to return to be in our starting line-up for the Pompey match. He was back in training on Wednesday after representing Tunisia at the Africa Cup of Nations tournament, playing four games for his country before they exited to Mali in a ‘last 16’ penalty shootout.

Tomorrow’s match also sees us up against the only team we have so far beaten in the Championship this season, chalking up a 2-0 win at Fratton Park back in September with goals from Barry Bannan and George Brown.
