Owls boost play-off hopes

Wednesday took another step towards the play-offs with a three-goal second-half scoring burst against Charlton.

Few in the near 30,000 crowd would have predicted the eventual 3-0 scoreline after a lifeless first-half display.

However, Carlos Carvalhal introduced Alex Lopez and Atdhe Nuhiu at the break and the changes paid dividends with Wednesday immediately looking a more dangerous unit.

Tom Lees headed us in front on 64 minutes and Fernando Forestieri nodded the second six minutes later after Nuhiu’s header came back off an upright.

The scoring was completed 13 minutes from time when Charlton’s El-Hadji Ba deflected Lopez’s long-range effort into his own net.

With rivals Ipswich losing and Birmingham and Cardiff only drawing, we now have a three-point advantage over seventh-placed Cardiff in the chase for a play-off place.
