Outclassed Wednesday bow out of FA Cup

Wednesday bowed out of the FA Cup in a 3-0 defeat at Premier League Everton this evening.

Second-half headers around the hour-mark from Richarlson and Yerry Mina saw the home side complete a comfortable fourth round victory after former Sheff U man Dominic Calvert-Lewin had opened the scoring from close-in on 29 minutes.

Wednesday actually had the first chance of the tie, Adam Reach forcing a tipover save by  Robin Olsen from long range, but that was as good as it got for us as Everton went on to totally dominate the game.

Joe Wildsmith pushed a Richarlison header onto the bar and over early on and the same player netted on 11 minutes but was ruled offside.

Calvert-Lewin struck that opener just before the half-hour mark and the quickfire two headers after the interval soon settled the tie.

We found ourselves largely outclassed and outpassed and attentions now turn back to the fight to avoid relegation from the Championship with an important away clash with fellow strugglers Coventry on Wednesday evening.

Wildsmith, Urhoghide, Brennan, Bonner, Galvin (Penney 60), Harris, Pelupessy, Bannan (Dele-Bashiru 68), Reach (Marriott 80), Paterson (Brown 60), Green (Windass 46). Unused subs. Jackson, Palmer, Hunt, Kachunga.
