His second-half winner clinched a vital win at Oakwell and O’Grady said afterwards: “There has been the option of going to Barnsley at times this season but I have earned the right to be here. Wednesday are a massive club and they mean a lot to me, so I am committed to helping us get out of the position that we have got ourselves in.
“I have come quite close to going to Barnsley – to the point where it was up to me whether to go.
“But thinking about the fans and what I have achieved here, I have definitely got unfinished business in terms of last season and the position we are in now. It would not be fair to leave that.”
O’Grady also paid tribute to Barnsley manager Keith Hill and his assistant, David Flitcroft, who helped the player to develop when he played under them at Rochdale.
