‘New boy’ in training ahead of Luton game

New signing Stuart Armstrong could go straight into the Wednesday squad for tomorrow’s home game with struggling Luton as we look to edge closer to the Championship play-off places.

The ex-Southampton midfielder was announced today as our first arrival of the January transfer window after moving from MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps and he links up again with former Saints coach Danny Rohl, the pair having been together at St Mary’s.

Armstrong trained at Middlewood Road this morning and now we wait to see if the paperwork was completed in time for the player to be able to be part of tomorrow’s squad to face Luton and, if so, whether Rohl feels he is ready to slot straight into the matchday action.

The manager told Thursday’s press conference that Anthony Musaba, who missed last Saturday’s win at QPR, is still a doubt for tomorrow while Barry Bannan and Di’Shon Bernard have “needed treatment for recovery” this week but should be available.

Ahead of the match, Rohl spoke of having drawn too many home games but also of the character, mentality and togetherness of the squad being a big strength of the Owls, saying: “We go into the game with a lot of self-confidence and belief, with the feeling that we have already achieved 41 points and this is what I want to see from my team.

“It’s about how we play, how we want to play and I demand from my team that we start with good intensity.

“I see a group really going for games, that can win games. The players have great belief we can do this and it’s great to see.”

Luton’s new manager, Matt Bloomfield, has been busy in the transfer window as he looks to steer the Hatters away from the relegation zone after losing six of their last seven Championship matches.
