Moore: I thought we did enough to win the tie

Darren Moore felt Wednesday did enough to go through to the FA Cup fifth round today despite seeing us having to settle for a replay back at Fleetwood.

The Owls boss saw the Owls have 15 attempts but only one on target in the round four 1-1 draw at Hillsborough and said afterwards: “We went a goal down against the run of play and then saw great desire and temperament from the boys to get back into the game.

“Did I think we did enough to win the game – yes. Possession and territory were good and we created some wonderful overloads down the side of them.

“We got in some good positions but either a wrong choice, poor contact on the ball or them just getting bodies in front of goal denied us from scoring more. But I still thought we did enough to win today.

“The one thing I said to the boys afterwards was we didn’t show that ruthless mentality to put the ball in the back of the net.”

The introduction of Barry Bannan and George Byers to the midfield just after the hour made a big difference to the team performance and Moore said: “Baz and George were always going to get 30 minutes and they really controlled the game when they came on.”

Moore also had plenty of praise for Mallik Wilks, saying: “I’m delighted for him because he was a real thorn in their side all afternoon.

“The fans could see what he can bring in that role. His ball control was good, he made some great runs and he gives us another string to our bow.”
