Midfield pair could be in starting line-up for Preston clash

Barry Bannan and George Byers could both return to the Wednesday midfield for tomorrow’s home game with Ryan Lowe’s Preston as Wednesday seek our first Championship points of the season.

Skipper Bannan was subbed at half time against Hull last Saturday after the recurrence of an ankle injury while Byers has been battling for full fitness but came on as a late sub at Hull and created the opening for Michael Smith to score our second goal in the 4-2 defeat which left us pointless in the early table.

Liam Palmer, who has been recovering from surgery in the close season, was an unused sub at Hull and may return to the defence after we c0nceded four goals last weekend.

Talking about tomorrow’s game against a Preston side who have four points from two matches, manager Xisco Munoz said: “It’s a difficult team. They play aggressively and are organised. They know exactly what they want and have had time with their coach.”

Munoz also indicated at his pre-match press conference that Wednesday could make further signings before the transfer deadline at the end of the month, indicating that the club is looking at possible loans from the Championship and Premier League.
