Matchwinner Connor Wickham was not in the starting line-up at Leicester because of a foot injruy.
Dave Jones revealed he didn’t chance Wickham from the start because of the problem but the striker got his opportunity when the manager decided the returning Reda Johnson was feeling the effects of his long lay-off and shuffled the pack to accommodate Wickham with 30 minutes remaining.
Wickham said he then took a knock on the injury almost straightaway but shrugged that off to crack home the winner 10 minutes later.
Reflecting on the goal, he said: “I just kept my eye on the ball and once it dropped to me it was a matter of putting my foot through it, keeping it on target and it went under the keeper and in.”
Considering his future at Hillsborough, Wickham said he has enjoyed his time at the club but that whether he stays on loan or returns to Sunderland is up to the two clubs to decide between them.
