Chris Maguire’s cracking injury-time volley clinched another precious victory for Wednesday and sends us up into 14th place on 53 points in the fight for Championship survival.
The 2-1 win means we are now six points clear of the relegation zone with five matches to play – the same number as all our relegation rivals, apart from Millwall and Blackburn who have a game in hand.
In typical Wednesday fashion we began slowly, falling behind after just two minutes to a goal from Jimmy Abdou, and were then outplayed for most of the half.
Miguel Llera put us level against the run of play with a long-range free kick five minutes from half-time and, although we improved after the break, Chris Kirkland came to our rescue on more than one occasion.
Then, just as it looked as though we had secured another valuable point, Maguire struck from a Wednesday corner to pinch all three and spark off joyous scenes from the vociferous travelling fans behind the goal.
