Joe Lumley has joined Wednesday on a free transfer following keeper Pierce Charles’ move to Manchester City.
Lumley, who had a brief emergency loan spell with us last season when he made two appearances, has signed a two-year contract after moving from Bristol City.
The 31-year-old keeper said: “I jumped at the chance to come here. I was here last season and just got a feeling within that time of the set-up of the club, how big the club is, how passionate the fans are. It was a no-brainer for me to come here.
“I’ve heard that the season tickets are selling out fast. So, I can only imagine the atmosphere is going to be exactly how it was when I experienced it before, which is perfect.
“I’ve played at Hillsborough as an away player too and when the ground is bouncing, it’s intimidating, which as a home team, you want that.”
Sporting Director, Simon Wilson, said: “Joe was with us last season for a short period and I know that players and staff alike are delighted to see him return to Sheffield Wednesday.
“His experience within the game is vast and he’s spent a significant part of his career to date playing in the Championship, which speaks to his quality.
Lumley has racked up more than 200 appearances, playing with QPR, Middlesbrough, Reading (loan), Southampton and Bristol City, along with other loan spells.
