Kieran Lee’s 97th minute winner completed a tremendous second-half fightback and took Wednesday to within a point of the play-offs against Bristol City at Hillsborough on Tuesday evening.
Torrential rain delayed the kick off by 15 minutes as water poured onto the pitch from the roof of the North Stand at the Leppings Lane end. And by half time, most of the 24,000 crowd must have wished it had been called off beforehand as two Tammy Abraham goals saw us trailing 2-0.
However, it was a different story after the break with Steven Fletcher’s header starting the comeback.
Sam Hutchinson was then red carded for a foul but Lee Tomlin’s resulting penalty struck a post and when the ball went straight back upfield, City’s Gary O’Neill was sent off for fouling Gary Hooper.
Hillsborough was then lifted again when Barry Bannan fired home from 25 yards and there were scenes of great jubilation deep into stoppage time as Lee shot home the winner.
