Lees expected to miss Fulham test

Tom Lees is unlikely to be fit to face Fulham on Saturday, a game which also marks Garry Monk’s first Hillsborough match as Owls boss.

The skipper injured a hamstring in the warm-up before the last match at S6, against QPR three weeks ago, and Monk rates Lees as doubtful for Fulham game.

Monk confirmed Lees has been training this week but said the player is still struggling with the injury. It’s not a serious problem but the manager says he is wary of putting him back in the side too quickly, with the possibility of worsening the condition.

If Lees is ruled out after Friday’s training session then Dominic Iorfa is expected to continue to deputise in the centre of defence.

Wednesday have no further injury problems while Fernando Forestieri sits out the second match of his six-game ban.

Looking to his debut home game in charge, Monk said: “It will be a proud moment for me to lead the team for the first time at Hillsborough.”

He added: “Hillsborough needs to be a tough place to visit. To do that the players need to show hard work and commitment and that’s what the fans respond to. The noise they can make is ferocious.”
