Jos faces striker decision for Cardiff challenge

Jos Luhukay is unlikely to have any further players back from injury as Wednesday prepare for Saturday’s televised Hillsborough clash with promotion-chasing Cardiff.

Jack Hunt returned to action in the FA Cup against Carlisle on Tuesday evening but Luhukay has indicated that he does not expect anyone else from our lengthy injury list to be ready to face Neil Warnock’s side.

However, while Wednesday ‘s squad is generally down to the bare bones because of the sick list, Luhukay has a selection decision to make up front. He played Lucas Joao and Jordan Rhodes against Sheff U last Friday but chose Atdhe Nuhiu and Marco Matias as the strike pairing against Carlisle and both scored in the 2-0 victory.

Joe Wildsmith, Daniel Pudil, Adam Reach and Ross Wallace were all rested to the bench for the Carlisle game – with Liam Palmer, Rhodes and Joao making up the seven substitutes – and they will all be pressing for a recall for Saturday.

On the injury front, Keiren Westwood has had a series of injections on his troublesome groin and is now expected to be resting for two to three weeks while Almen Abdi has suffered yet another injury, picking up a muscle problem in training, and is likely to be ruled out until next month.

Glenn Loovens will be missing aginst his former club as he completes a two-match ban following the red card at Bramall Lane.

Wednesday go into the match looking for a first Championship win at Hillsborough since the end of October – a run of five games – and seeking only our second victory in the last 11 league outings.
