Dave Jones could get a touchline ban following his after-match rant over referee Scott Mathieson at Loftus Road yesterday.
Mathieson turned down two Wednesday penalty appeals – the first for a challenge by Armand Traore on Michail Antonio before the break and then when Joey Barton clearly fouled Jacques Maghoma in the second half, only for the ref to book the Wednesday man for diving.
Jones, who was banned from the dugout last season ater a pitchside altercation with the then Brighton assistant Charlie Oatway, said: “It was an embarrassment for the officials to miss two clear penalties. You need the referee to make the big calls and he didn’t do it.
“There’s no point in relegating him to another league because it doesn’t matter what league he’s in. If he can’t spot those, he can’t spot anything.
“It was a poor, poor performance from the referee and it spoiled everything because we’ve come here and played well against a team that are among the favourites for promotion.
“I’ve been told not to talk about referees but I’m so angry. I’d much rather talk about football but I’m so livid with what’s gone on.”
The Football League and League Managers’ Association have instructed managers not to criticise match officials and Jones can expect a tough response from the authorities in the coming days.
