Dave Jones has confirmed that Wednesday have approached Reading in a bid to sign loanee star Michail Antonio.
Jones says the club has contacted promoted Reading but have not heard back as yet. The Owls boss also revealed that Antonio has said he would like to return to Hillsborough and that Wednesday are interested in securing a permanent deal – although if Reading only wanted a one-year loan arrangement then we would look at that as well.
Jones said that since last week’s promotion back to the Championship, there had been a phenomenal response in terms of agents contacting him to offer their players to the club. However, he added that any interest from us has to be tempered by the financial constraints at Wednesday.
He added that the elevation to the Championship takes the club up several notches in terms of the standard of football and the players required. At the same time, Jones said it is important we don’t lose the camaraderie and toughness of the squad, built up during the last 12 months, and that everyone he brings in needs to fit with the dressing room.
