A cracking Jermaine Johnson strike 13 minutes from time secured another three crucial points for a nervy Wednesday side in the latest Hillsborough relegation six-pointer against Blackburn Rovers.
With the game locked at 2-2 and Rovers looking the more likely of the two sides to take all three points, man-of-the-match JJ burst forward in typical fashion before smashing the ball home from 20 yards to send the S6 crowd into raptures.
Wednesday made a bright start ro the game but then Jordan Rhodes, the scourge of the Wednesday defence on many an occasion, put the visitors ahead from the penalty spot on 12 minutes, Chris Kirkland having brought down David Dunn after Miguel Llera’s headed pass back fell short.
The Owls were back on level terms eight minutes later, Jermaine Johnson striking a left-footer across goal and into the far corner of the net from just inside the penalty area. And things got even better 10 minutes before half-time, the referee judging that Reda Johnson was bundled over in the box and Leroy Lita cracked the resulting penalty into the top corner of the net.
However, Wednesday began the second-half in lacklustre fashion, allowing Rovers to dominate and it was no surprise when Scott Dann headed them level on 71 minutes.
At that stage, a point looked to be as much as Wednesday could hope for … but then JJ capped an impressive performance with his moment of magic to seal the points and lift Wednesday up to 18th spot in the division.
