Jim walks tall after lifting Proud of Barnsley award

Well done to former London Owl, Jim Morton, for winning the Exceptional Achievement award at the Barnsley Chronicle Proud of Barnsley Awards.

Jim, who now lives in Penistone and is still a big Wednesday fan, collected the accolade at the presentation night at the Barnsley Metrodome on Friday after his amazing near 9,000-mile walk around the entire coastline of mainland Great Britain over 537 days.

His remarkable achievement, which has seen him raise more than £33,000 for the Gurkha Welfare Trust, had already led to Jim being nominated for the regional finals of the Pride of Britain awards and now he has completed a double by winning the Proud of Barnsley honour.

Jim attended the presentation evening with his wife, Sue, who played a big part in the marathon trip as motorhome driver, navigator, campsite organiser and so much more.

Congratulations to Jim – and to Sue – on a very well-earned award!
