James fit to return to squad as Owls look to extend club record run

Reece James is expected to return to the Wednesday squad for tomorrow’s home game with Peterborough.

James missed last Saturday’s win at Charlton due to a sore ankle but Darren Moore said today that he has trained all week and should be ready to rejoin the squad for the visit of the Posh.

Marvin Johnson will again be absent as he serves the second game of his three-match ban.

Wednesday will be looking to further consolidate our place at the top of division one after achieving that club record 20-match unbeaten league run last Saturday.

The 1-0 win in south London was also a ninth victory in our last 10 league one outings and, with second-placed Plymouth losing 5-2 at Peterborough, saw us go three points clear at the head of the table, also with a game in hand on the Pilgrims and with a superior goal difference.

Plymouth are at home to Charlton tomorrow while third-placed Ipswich, eight points behind Wednesday and also having played a match more than us, entertain Burton.

Our opponents Peterborough, now back under the managership of Darren Ferguson, are eight points behind the play-off spots but have lost just twice in their last eight league games and will be looking to complete a double over the Owls after their early season 2-0 win at London Road.

Having recently celebrated two years at Hillsborough, Darren Moore also paid tribute to the “magnificent support” of the Wednesday fans – both home and away – in his time at S6 and added “please keep going in what you are doing … we need you” as the team continue the challenge of getting back into the Championship.

* Tomorrow’s game will be dedicated to long-standing member of staff, Elaine Murphy, who sadly passed away on New Year’s Eve.

Saturday would have been Elaine’s 78th birthday.
