Dave Jones felt Wednesday ran out deserved winners after the nerve-jangling climax to our 2-1 victory over Barnsley.
With Wednesday two-up, an incident-packed final seven minutes saw Gary Madine miss a penalty, Lewis Buxton sent off for a second yellow card and Barnsley pulling a goal back … not to mention six minutes of added time!
The Owls boss said: “Yes, there was plenty of drama out there today but it’s all about the points as far as we are concerned. It was scrappy and tense in the first half but the game improved after the break and I thought we were the better side and we got the points we deserved.”
Talking of goalscorer Gary Madine, who also missed a penalty, Jones said: “He did really well and I’m pleased for him because he got his goal and should have had two.
“He has taken a bit of time to adapt to the Championship but he is getting there. If I didn’t think he could score goals in the Championship, he wouldn’t be at the football club – it’s as simple as that.”
