‘It was all about the result today and we deserved the three points’

Darren Moore said today’s game with Accrington was all about the result … and that’s just what he got in a 3-0 Hillsborough victory.

With promotion rivals Plymouth and Ipswich both dropping points, it also paved the way for a Wednesday return to the top of the table and Moore reflected: “For me it was all about winning our game today and we did that with a thorough and professional performance.

“We thought Accrington would play more of a lower block but they came for us and that made for an open game. We started the game really well, the first goal settled us down and after that we were in control and were worthy of the win.”

He added: “It was a continuation of where I think we’ve been over the last couple of weeks. We haven’t had the rub of the green but what we have done is shown the impetus to go and try to win games.

“All aspects went with us today, it was a comprehensive 3-0 win and it continues the home form we have set out to create since the start of the season.”

The game also saw the return of second-half sub Callum Paterson after a lengthy injury lay-off, along with a late runout for youngster Rio Shipston, and Moore commented: “I’m pleased for Pato and he gave us a fresh impetus up front. Rio is a young, promising and upcoming player, he’s a local and he’s making good strides.”

Reece James had to go off just before half time after receiving treatment for a knock while Mallik Wilks was subbed at half time, Moore explaining: “It’s a little early but we will assess them in the week. Reece took a knock, it was more of an impact thing, and with Mallik it could be fatigue after the Easter games were so close together. We will know more about both of them this week.”
