Connor Wickham’s future at Hillsborough hangs in the balance as his loan spell nears its end.
According to the club website, Wickham is due to return to Sunderland after our home game with Blackpool on New Year’s Day. He appeared to be waving farewell to the Owls fans as he left the pitch at Charlton on Saturday but Stuart Gray again stressed after the match that Wednesday are hoping to extend his stay at S6.
The striker, who took his tally to six goals from eight games with the equaliser at the Valley, has been linked with a move to Forest but Gray said: “We are talking to Sunderland because we want to keep Connor and he wants to stay here and play games rather than sit on the substitutes’ bench.
“Obviously, he is their player so we will see how talks progress.
“He has done ever so well here, he is buzzing with confidence at the moment, and credit to him because he has made the most of his spell with us.”
