Young Wednesday defender Gabriel Otegbayo has received a first call-up to the Republic of Ireland under-21 squad for their international friendlies later this month.
The 19-year-old, who joined us from Burnley in March, was given a new contract at the end of last season and has already tasted first team action.
He made his debut for us when he came on as a sub in the EFL Cup win over Hull City in August and then had his first start in the same competition at Blackpool.
He followed this by playing the entire 90 minutes against Premier League Brentford in the EFL Cup fourth round last month and made his Championship debut as a sub in our 2-0 win over Norwich on Tuesday evening.
Now comes selection for the young Republic of Ireland squad during the upcoming international break, when they face a ‘double header friendly’ against Sweden in Marbella with games on November 14 and 17.
