Tony Pulis had a smile on his face after gaining a first win as Wednesday manager at the ninth attempt.
Having seen us turn in a battling performance to beat Coventry 1-0 at Hillsborough this afternoon, Pulis said: “Winning is everything in football, it hides a multitude of sins in lots of way and it’s a great result for us.
“I’m delighted for the players in the dressing room, they’ve given everything today and for the supporters as well – they’ve had to wait a long time for that.
“We’ve got to make this place more of a fortress, a difficult place for people to come and play and that’s not been the case over the past 12 months.
“Coventry had a right go until the last minute and we had to roll our sleeves up. It was one of those games like I’ve been involved in many times as a manager when you have to grind it out. They did it today and I’m very pleased.
“We had some good chances as well. Josh could have had a hat-trick today and missed our three best chances.”
The manager added: “It’s three points and we needed it. The run of games where we have not won, I think we have deserved to win some of them, but it was a real battling performance today.
“We’re missing quite a few players but those who stepped in have played their part and played really well.
“It was nice to have Westie back in goal. He calms everything down and when he was called on he made a couple of really good saves for us.”
