Gary Hooper marked his return to action with two goals for the under-23s on a day of good news stories for the Owls.
Hooper, who has been sidelined for almost two months after sustaining a hamstring injury at Fulham, was on target twice in the first half as the Owls academy team defeated Barnsley 3-0. The striker came off after 50 minutes and Jack Stobbs grabbed Wednesday’s third goal.
Earlier in the day, the club announced that both Fernando Forestieri and Sam Hutchinson had agreed contract extensions to 2020.
