Two first-half goals from George Hirst – his 33rd and 34th of the season – saw Wednesday’s under-23s clinch their place in the Professional Development League 2 play-off final after a 2-1 victory over Millwall at Hillsborough on Monday night.
Hirst put us ahead in the semi-final after good work by Jack Stobbs and, although Millwall levelled through Philpot, Hirst restored our lead before the interval when he pounced on a rebound and fired home from close range.
And the goal hero tweeted afterwards: ‘2-1 win and onto the final. Happy to have scored another 2 goals taking me to 34 for the season’.
We now face Hull in the final after they beat Charlton on penalties in their semi-final.
