‘Great night but now we need to finish job’

Carlos Carvalhal rated the play-off semi-final first leg win over Brighton as one of Wednesday’s best performances of the season … but warned that the tie is far from over with the return at the Amex on Monday evening.

Reflecting on the 2-0 victory, the head coach said: “Tonight we did one of the best performances of the season. We played like we did against Cardiff and Arsenal.

“We wanted the team to be balanced and play with intensity and we did this very well.

“We won the game but we have won nothing else yet, we need to play on Monday like the score is 0-0.”

He was also full of praise for the support of the 34,000 crowd, saying: “The way our massive fans reacted was brilliant.

“The atmosphere in the ground was unbelievable and it created some magic. I am sure this is a game they will remember for some time because it means a lot.

“I think they will be talking about this for the next few weeks and maybe more.”
