Amidst the news of recent arrivals at S6 comes today’s announcement that young striker Will Grainger has signed a new contract with Wednesday until the summer of 2029.

Grainger, 17, impressed when he was given a chance of first team action near the end of last season … scoring his first-ever senior goal for the club at Oxford and then making a full debut in the final game of the season against West Brom.

Grainger said: “It feels amazing – it’s the best feeling of my life. It was never going to be anywhere else for me, only here. I think I can make an impact at this club and it’s the best place for me to be.

“When you go out and play in front of so many people, there’s only one thing on your mind and that’s performing for the fans and getting everyone excited. You can see the foundations the club are putting into place and I think it’s only going to get better for everyone from here.

“We’re going to demand high standards of each other as players and we’re going to really have a good go this season.”

Sporting Director, Simon Wilson, said: “Developing our own players is a hugely important part of building the future of Sheffield Wednesday, so securing Will’s long-term future is a significant moment for the club.”

Grainger’s new deal comes just a day after Motherwell midfielder, Callum Slattery, signed a three-year contract with the Owls.

Slatter, 27, spent five years at Fir Park, and said of the transfer: “This is such an exciting move at an exciting time for the club. I had options but ultimately when I knew Sheffield Wednesday were interested, it was an easy decision for me to make.

“It’s massive. The ambition is there and we want to be positive throughout the whole season. A club this size with that ambition, it’s just great to be a part of it.“
