New signing set to tackle Championship

New signing Urby Emanuelson is ready for the challenge of Championship football with Wednesday.

The 30-year-old former Dutch international was a free agent after leaving Verona at the end of last season and the Owls confirmed today that he is the latest arrival at S6.

Talking after the deal was confirmed, left back Emanuelson said: “The Championship is new to me but I know it is a long season, with lots of games and a lot of competition. It is a tough division but I hope I can help the team and show the fans what I’m all about.

“So far, I’ve got a really positive vibe from the club and everyone seems friendly and welcoming and I’m looking forward to getting started.”

Emanuelson played more than 170 times for Ajax, between 2004 and 2011, and then went on to make 75 appearances at AC Milan over the next three years. He also spent six months on loan at Fulham in 2013, playing 13 times, and had a further 11 games in a short spell with Verona earlier this year.

His international career saw him represent the Netherlands 16 times between 2006 and 2012.
