Flint returns on loan and could face Fleetwood in FA Cup tie

Aden Flint could go straight into the Wednesday squad for tomorrow’s FA Cup fourth round tie at home to Fleetwood after joining us this morning for a second loan spell.

The 33-year-old central defender has signed until the end of the season, having previously moved to Hillsborough on loan from his then parent club, Cardiff, in the 2020/21 season, before injury ended the arrangement.

Flint will wear shirt number 44 and might figure against Fleetwood as Wednesday look to build on our club record 20-match unbeaten run in all competitions.

If the tie ends all-square then the replay will be at Fleetwood on February 7 while the fifth round draw will take place during the One Show on BBC One on Monday evening, the programme starting at 7pm.

On the injury front, George Byers could possibly return to the squad tomorrow while Darren Moore says Barry Bannan is progressing and may well be ready to be considered for next week’s top-of-the-table clash with leaders Plymouth at Hillsborough.

However, Michael Ihiekwe is making slow progress following his knee ligament injury suffered in the FA Cup second round tie with Mansfield in December with manager Moore saying today that he could now be sidelined for most of the season while Reece James continues to recuperate from his ankle problem picked up at Wycombe earlier this month.
